National People's Action
We developed a complete redesign and rebuild for NPA's bank accountability campaign, Save the American Dream. With Design Action Collective providing the visual design, we did what we do best:
- Building a solid, fast infrastructure (LAMP stack on Linode) with Drupal and CiviCRM.
- Apply our nonprofit and consulting expertise to ensure that the system is inline with NPA’s campaign plan.
- Custom development to overcome any limitations encountered in contributed Drupal modules.
Some of the highlights include:
- Featured Story slideshow on the homepage.
- Letter to the Editor based on zip code proximity.
- Join the Movement signup sheet.
- Online Donations.
- Sign a Petition.
- User submitted stories.
- Find a nearby organization map displaying grassroots movement across the U.S.
In addition to a complex Drupal installation solving many different needs within the campaign, we were also on call to monitor and respond to performance problems within the container. The site needed to be able to handle spikes in traffic timed with their direct action events on the streets.
We often write "throw-away" code for one-off tasks or to scratch our own itch. The source might not be immediately useful for others but the lessons learned are invaluable. We always try to blog, tweet, or share those lessons when appropriate.
