Wasatch Community Gardens

Wasatch Community Gardens (WCG) provides opportunities for individuals to grow their own food in urban gardens. They host workshops on a variety of topics and have three core programs: Community Gardening, Youth Gardening and Community Education. WCG, as 21-year-old organization has also won numerous awards.

Dharmatech was able to help WCG by implementing a Drupal/CiviCRM installation that matches their workflows and processes. They have the ability to blog about their work, a calendar that manages all of their events, and accept online donations. Because of these powerful systems, our in-depth consulting, and the maturity of WCG, they have already moved into the next stage of development and are ready to iterate on the foundation we helped them establish. You will be reading more about WCG and their evolution in the coming months.

We also helped WCG with simplifying and improving their tech infrastructure:

  • Installed a Linux file server that is mirrored and provides local backups. Offsite backups are done with removable USB drives.
  • Installed Linux on an older PC as a volunteer machine. Using Open Office for writing documents, signs, and of course updating their site.
  • Installed and configured pfSense allowing them to secure their network
  • Helped them develop a technology plan for maintenance of their PCs, Macs and Linux machines.
  • Migrated them to Google Apps to simplify their mail, calendar and document sharing.

With improved network speeds, ability to print/share documents, easily update content on their website, manage events and mailings, WCG has been able to focus more on their program work. As a result, they've increased donations and increased interest in their community workshops and education programs.
